Elenin Fever, Why Unfitting and Undesirable

Comet Elenin.  Source: txchnologist

To note why comet Elenin has, apparently, become feverish, it was said
Elenin will be aligned with the Sun and the Earth starting from 26th September until till the 30th, and the Sun may become dark as the Elenin blocks the Sun for three days till the 29th which is Rosh Hashanah – Feast of Trumpets (Jewish New Year), the day that is apparently filled with meanings for rapture in Judaic traditions, and Palestinian’s UN bid for statehood is to take place on 23rd.
And there are even chances of big earthquake taking place, and it even seems that it shall “fulfil” Revelation 12, and so on and on.

Speculation was and is so great that Jack Kelley even refuted the above with his own rapture theory and quoting Romans 10:2 to point out how people may have zeal, but not according to knowledge. This created, as I’ve observed, some uncomfortable reactions from the Elenin supporters.

It’s more appropriate, however, that we consider why Elenin phenomenon taking place in this Rosh Hashanah will be unfitting to Revelation 12, within that chapter alone.
Let us examine why it is inaccurate and hence, unbiblical (for the related rapture theories part thereof).

1) Revelation 12 is not about celestial phenomena.
(beginning with verse 1 down till verse 17 and even the next chapter for it continues on – these are not about celestial phenomena)
What Apostle John saw by Revelation 12 is not foretelling of the events in celestial bodies, but of the actual things to come in the spiritual realm.

Those who say that it is a celestial phenomenon and believe that Elenin and constellation by this Rosh Hashanah fits to the description of Revelation 12:1-4, consider the following.

What, then, in continuing sense, about the woman fleeing into the desert for 1,260 days (Rev 12:6), or war in heaven against the dragon and his angels by Michael and his angels (v 7) where the dragon, the Satan, loses and is cast down to the earth (v 8)?

Are these also to be considered celestial phenomena?
If so, is, then, the event of angel coming down from heaven who shall seize the dragon and bound him for a thousand years (Rev 20:1-2) also to be an event confined to constellation signs?

Absolutely not.
Revelation 12 is not about celestial phenomena. Full stop.

2) Signs in the celestial bodies are literally signs.
And that is how it is designed to be.
It is, after all, written;

[Genesis 1:14 KJV]
And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:

and, even

[Deuteronomy 4:19 KJV]
And lest thou lift up thine eyes unto heaven, and when thou seest the sun, and the moon, and the stars, even all the host of heaven, shouldest be driven to worship them, and serve them, which the LORD thy God hath divided unto all nations under the whole heaven.

In other words, it is divided unto all nations, for all nations to know and discern. Signs in the celestial bodies itself do not become an event (like Satan to be hurled down, rapture, etc) in its own right, other than to fulfil the prophecy (Luke 21:25 and its parallels). Please do note, disasters that are caused from the sky noted in Revelation 8 and 16, are not ‘signs’, but separate events.

3) The sun and the moon don’t match.
The sun that clothed woman, and the moon that was under the feet of the woman in Revelation 12 were not darkened/turned into red (because of the Elenin according to the theory) – instead it was shining bright- when John saw it. (i.e. John was able to identify them as the sun and the moon for they were shining throughout. Also as for the sun that was darkened and the moon turned into blood, John records them separately in detail in Revelation 6:12-14)

4) The stars don’t match.
Elenin theory has it that 12 separate stars will crown the Virgo, if correct.
However, in the book of Revelation, it’s not 12 separate stars that crown the woman, but rather ‘a’ crown (στέφανος – stephanos) of 12 stars that crowns the woman’s top of the head.

Also, what is expected in this coming Rosh Hashanah is that 12 stars will be around the face/head of the Virgo, NOT above it. Say, who puts a crown or tiara on one’s face or around one’s head? It should be on top of the head. So even this is inaccurate.

Additionally, there are speculations that there might be chances of Elenin splitting into 12 and thereby crowning the Virgo.

Again – it is ‘a’ crown of 12 stars that crowns the woman, not comet/asteroid/dwarf star/stars.

5) Chronologically, it doesn’t match.
Events within Revelation 12 itself unfold chronologically.

The woman clothed in the sun, moon beneath her fit and crowned with a crown of 12 stars on top of the head appears first (v 1), then her pregnancy as much as the imminence of her labour is noted (v 2), and then we get to see the dragon, or the Satan. (v 3) The dragon, then, with his tail flings down the third of stars down to the earth. (v 4)

There have been reports of Asteroid Honda 45P coming out of Hydra (dragon) in August and so it was thought to be that this would fulfil the verse 4. However, crowning the Virgo (verse 3) by Elenin (even this is not accurate as we have seen above) takes in September, a month after August. And so chronologically, it just doesn’t fit.

Last year, we also had a similar event up in the sky (exactly) at Rosh Hashanah

of which I’ve written:
Two Asteroids on Rosh Hashanah?

God is giving, literally, signs on things to unfold. Again, signs itself do not constitute an event. Jeremiah 10:2 confirms this.

[Jeremiah 10:2] Thus says the LORD: “Do not learn the way of the Gentiles; do not be dismayed at the signs of heaven, for the Gentiles are dismayed at them.

Not only the Gentiles or heathen, were dismayed by these signs of heaven, but after being dismayed or inspired, they have turned into an idol and started to worship it (and the Israelites were also affected as seen by 2 Kings 17:16; 21:3, 5, 23:4, Amos 5:26, Zephaniah 1:5) as well. Of course, when it comes out as a fruit of obsession, then we know that idolatry is going on.
That’s why God has commanded not to learn from those and be dismayed at the signs of heaven.

Well, the above has been addressed to the Israelites. Not to Church.
The gist of His words, however, remains same and with such,
doesn’t it still echo to the context of this Elenin fever?

Signs are signs. They do not constitute an end in itself.
Moreover, these signs do not transcend the One who makes them in the first place or gives the meaning of it.
Rapture is same. It’s a process, not an end of its own, that takes place before the unification with the Christ. Rapture, then, cannot transcend the Christ or become an object of faith in its own right.

It is, however, to be regretted that many, it seems, are forgetting this.
And perhaps that’s what we need to be dismayed with, not a comet such as Elenin.
